Canadian Cities Series Type I – PPC Printing

The Toronto Lithographing Co. Limited produced two major varieties of their Canadian Cities Series pioneer postcards. The first major variety was issued with a space for the postage stamp and the address on the illustrated front of the card, in compliance with postal regulations in 1898. The cards had a blank back for correspondence. The cards date to 1898.

One of the variations of the cards in this series is with the text “Private Post Card” printed on the card face. This text appears to have been a postal requirement in some jurisdictions, and cards without this text mailed to Europe can sometimes be found with the text added, sometimes by way of a rubber stamp, to meet postal regulations. Below are some examples of cards with the text pre-printed. Placeholders for the balance of the set are included until such time as copies can be added.
