Toronto Litho—Canadian Cities Series Type I

The Toronto Lithographing Co. Limited produced two major varieties of their Canadian Cities Series pioneer postcards. The first major variety was issued with a space for the postage stamp and the address on the illustrated front of the card, in compliance with postal regulations in 1898. The cards had a blank back for correspondence. The cards date to 1898.

A second issue filled the space for the stamp with an additional illustration and turned the former address area into a space for correspondence. The back of the card was printed with the text “Canadian Postal Card” on an undivided back stipulating it was for the application the address only. These cards appear to date to 1900.
